Now that I am in my 30s I realize WHY so many people told me to start taking care of my skin in my 20s. The aging hits quickly, which is beautiful in itself but we still want healthy looking skin, am I right? I was lucky enough to listen to my mother and started using random moisturizers on my skin in my 20s but I never had a real plan.
I am not claiming to be a skin care expert or really know much about what I am doing but I have spent a few years trying to find products that make my skin feel soft, plump, and moisturized. I tend to have dryer skin, especially around my nose, and I spent years (especially during our New England winters) with flaky skin. Here is how my morning routine works now:
After I shower and gently exfoliate my skin with an exfoliating cloth my skin always feels so dry and tight. One of my favorite things I have found for this is toner!
I recently started using a toner I found at Target by Thayers. I grabbed a 12oz bottle of the cucumber blend (you can grab it here) and put it into a small spray bottle so I can mist it on instead of trying to put it on with a cotton ball or something else. I love being able to mist it on and let it absorb. My skin feels so much better immediately.
Vitamin C Serum
This is a new product in my routine that I am really kind of obsessed with after only a week. I wanted my skin to have a little more of a glow so when I had to reorder my moisturizer that I have been using for a couple of years from Honest Beauty (more on that in a minute!) I decided to give this one a try. The Honest Vitamin C Radiance Serum goes on after my toner and I definitely notice the healthy glow it gives me. Also, it’s safe for pregnancy! You can grab that and read more about it here.
Deep Hydration Cream
My love affair with Honest Company began when my first daughter was born in Februrary 2013 and when they launched their beauty products I started to try a few here and there. Like I said, I am no skin care expert and I generally feel super overwhelmed shopping for products. Personally it was important to me that the things I put on my skin are as safe and free of harsh chemicals as possible which was a big part of the appeal of these products for me. The reason I’ve kept using them is because they have worked so well for me.
The Deep Hydration Face Cream from Honest is one that I’ve used for a couple of years. Nothing has made my skin feel as nice as this product has. Pairing it with the Vitamin C serum I definitely notice a difference. For me this one has been the best for fine lines. I notice the difference if I run out and have a week or more without it before I reorder. If you get only one of these products this would be the one I recommend. You can grab it and read more about it here.
This one I have stopped using for now while I am pregnant, it is not recommended to use topically or orally when you’re growing a baby but I wanted to mention it. I don’t use this one in the morning, I used it a couple of nights a week after I washed my face. It can be irritating if you use it too much but Honest also makes a great serum that I have loved and has been gentle on my skin. I haven’t noticed much of a difference without it, I think in part because of how great the other products are, but when it is safe I will definitely add this back in a couple of nights a week. It helps with the fine lines as well and this particular one, like I had said, has been very gentle on my skin. You can grab it here.
That is it, after I put on my creams and serums in the morning and let them absorb I begin my super simple makeup routine if I am going to do it for the day. My goal personally is to care for my skin in a way that minimizes the amount of makeup I need to use. It’s always good to have a solid makeup routine but I love being able to skip the foundation as much as possible and let my skin breath and be the star of the show. I hope this was helpful and takes some of that overwhelm out of choosing the products to care for you skin!
